We did for History what we did for Science: took every multiple-choice question Wizder has curated from O/L History Paper I, 500 questions from 13 papers (2012 to 2025), tagged each one with the era or theme it tests, and counted how many different sittings each tag appears in. The Science count argued against topic-chasing. This one does not.
The headline: History repeats, and it repeats by era
Across those papers the questions carry 112 distinct tags, against 437 for Science. 6 of them appear in 11 or more of the 13 sittings, and one appears in every single one: උඩරට රාජ්ය සමය. Only 55 tags are one-offs. The ten biggest tags between them account for about 43% of all the questions we have.

What that means in practice: the paper is built around the island's periods, in roughly the proportions the syllabus gives them, and it has been for over a decade. A revision plan organised by era, oldest to newest, is not a shortcut here. It is the shape of the exam.

World history is in there too
The table is not all Sri Lanka. The Industrial Revolution, the two World Wars, the United Nations and the revolutions the syllabus names all show up in the top half of the ranking, year after year. Students who treat the world-history unit as optional are handing back a steady share of Paper I marks every sitting.

How to use this list
- Revise in period order and give each era time in proportion to its row above. The Anuradhapura and Kandyan periods and the British era deserve more evenings than the Portuguese period, and the table says by how much.
- Do each era's questions from several different years in one sitting. The same king, tank or treaty is asked four different ways across a decade, and recognising it in new wording is the actual skill.
- Then switch to your own list: the questions you got wrong are a better plan than any ranking, including this one.
- යුග අනුපිළිවෙළින් පුනරීක්ෂණය කරන්න. එක් එක් යුගයට ඉහත වගුවේ ප්රමාණයට සරිලන කාලයක් දෙන්න. ඉන්පසු ඔබට වැරදුණු ප්රශ්න ලැයිස්තුව ම ඔබේ සැලැස්ම කර ගන්න.
Method, so you can argue with it
One tag per question, assigned during curation and checked against the marking scheme alongside the answer. History tags are deliberately coarser than Science tags: they name a period or a theme, because that is how the syllabus and the paper are organised, and a question about Parakramabahu's tanks and one about Polonnaruwa's fall both belong to the same revision evening. Four recent sittings were held the year after their nominal year and are counted once each under their exam year. Paper II is not included: it is not multiple choice, and this count is about Paper I.
