After the result, a family is handed two jobs. They are not the same job. One is reading the mark. The other is applying for a Grade 6 place, and only if an application is open. This page is the order those jobs happen in. It does not carry this year's dates, cut-off marks or school list. Those are announced officially each year. A page that copies them is wrong the moment the gazette changes.

The result
The Department of Examinations releases the Grade 5 Scholarship result. Read it on the Department's own site, doenets.lk, with the child's index number. The school is given a way to obtain the school's copy. A number forwarded in a chat, or a photo of someone else's sheet, is not something to act on.
The result is a mark. It does not name a school. It does not, on its own, admit the child anywhere.

The Grade 6 application
School places are a Ministry of Education process. The Ministry publishes a gazette and an application notice for Grade 6 admission on the strength of the Scholarship result. That notice is what names the rules for the year: who may apply, which schools are open, what the cut-off is, what to attach, and the deadline. It is published through moe.gov.lk. Until that notice is out, there is no form to fill and no list to choose from.
Some years the paper a school hands you is called a circular rather than a gazette. The name is not the test. The test is that it is this year's document, from the Ministry. Last year's gazette is a different document. A school list, a mark or a deadline copied from it does not apply.
How the form is sent is in the notice too. In recent years the school has submitted it, with the school's own access. Do not assume a parent can file it from a phone until this year's notice says so. Ask the principal which notice the school has, and follow that one.

Appeals
Two appeals get mixed up. They are filed with two different offices.
Re-scrutiny of the answer script is the Department of Examinations. It opens after the result, for a window the Department announces, and it is usually sent through the school. If the mark looks wrong, ask the school whether that window is open, and use only the instructions on doenets.lk. A late appeal is a missed appeal. The date is the Department's date for that year.
A complaint about a school place, if one is allowed at all, belongs to the Ministry's admission notice. Some years that notice describes a way to ask for a change after places are offered. Some years the rules are stricter. The notice is the whole of the rule. This page will not guess which kind of year this is.

What to do, in order
- Keep the index number somewhere that is not a chat thread.
- Read the result on doenets.lk.
- Wait for the Ministry notice on moe.gov.lk before talking about schools, cut-offs or deadlines.
- When the notice arrives, do what it says, through the school if that is what it says.
- If the mark looks wrong, ask the school about the Department's re-scrutiny while that window is open.
- Ignore anyone offering a reserved seat, a cut-off ahead of the gazette, or a school list the Ministry has not published.

Does the result itself give my child a Grade 6 school?
No. The result is the mark. A Grade 6 place in another school, when one is offered, comes from that year’s Ministry of Education admission notice. The notice names the rules, the schools and the deadline. Those are not printed on the result.
